Historical Context Japanese company Nissin Foods were the first to invent the instant noodle in 1958. It was the company's founder Taiwanese-Japanese inventor Momofuku Ando who came up with the idea of flash-frying precooked noodles to preserve them. At the time Ando was responding to the post-war food shortage problem in Japan. Ando went on to invent the cup noodles in 1971, now popular worldwide.
